Gum disease such as gingivitis can happen to everyone. Everyone has the same risk of having gingivitis but some people have higher risk to develop this condition. Pregnant women have higher risk as well as those who were having diabetes because it leads to dry mouth. Poor hygiene is the main cause of gingivitis, where those who can’t keep their oral hygiene will make the plaque to accumulate and lead to gum inflammation that called gingivitis. Never take the chance with gingivitis because it can lead to periodontitis, which is an inflammatory disease that can bring harm to dental health because it will lose the bone between roots of the teeth.
Practicing good oral hygiene is the basic way to prevent gum disease or in this case gingivitis. Always brush the teeth twice a day, every morning and before going to sleep at night. After brushing, make sure to floss the teeth to remove everything that the brush unable to reach. Rinsing people mouth with mouthwash is another solution to prevent gum disease although it is not the most essential part of oral hygiene. Specifically for brushing, people can choose between manual toothbrush and electric tooth brush. Electric and manual toothbrush are the same things but for those with arthritis or other health issues that make them unable to move their hand freely, electric toothbrush can be the solution. No matter what kind of toothbrush that people choose, the most important thing is doing it the right way every day.
People habits also can affect gum disease to appear or not. Those who have smoking habits have to stop it right away because it will increase the bacteria number in people mouth that will lead to higher risk of developing gingivitis. They can also try to give regular massage to their gum that will increase the blood circulation. Another good habit that people can do is to keep their body well hydrated by drinking enough water every day. Those with enough water will produce more saliva in their mouth. More saliva means wet mouth and wet mouth discourages any bacteria to grow so basically less risk for having gum disease such as gingivitis.
Making a regular visit to the dentist twice a year will also help prevent the gum disease. The dentist will clean up any plaque and tartar before it starts to build up. That is not all; the dentist can detect early sign of teeth problem and work on early treatment. Those with gingivitis problem can get a specific anti gingivitis toothpaste. Simple action like the one that mentioned before can help people prevent any gum disease such as gingivitis for better dental health.
